Sri Lanka’s Squad For T20 World Cup

Sri Lanka named their squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, led by all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga.

Hasaranga, will be supported by vice-captain Charith Asalanka. The experienced Angelo Mathews, a veteran of six T20 World Cups, adds further depth and leadership.

Sri Lanka has picked both Nuwan Thushara and Matheesha Pathirana as they bank on their Lasith Malinga-like slingers to create panic in the opposition camp. Left-arm pacer Dilshan Madhushanka and experienced Dushmantha Chameera are also part of their pace attack. Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana will join their captain, Hasaranga, in a strong spin attack for the tournament, which will be played in the USA and the West Indies. Batting firepower will be delivered by Pathum Nissanka, Charith Asalanka, Kusal Mendis, and the finisher Dasun Shanaka.

Sri Lanka will be in Group D paired with South Africa, Bangladesh, Netherlands, and Nepal.

The eight teams will be divided into two groups of four, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the Super Eight phase. The top two teams from each Super Eight group will then progress to the semifinals, with the final on June 29th.
