The Afghanistan squad consists of six all-rounders: Rashid, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, and Nangeyalia Kharote. Only four batters are in the squad, including wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Najibullah Zadran, and Mohammad Ishaq, a backup wicketkeeper.
The 15-man squad consists of five spinners, including Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Rashid, Nabi, and Kharote, ensuring a balanced mix of spin and pace in the bowling. The pace department will comprise three quicks: Naveen-ul-Haq and left-arm pacers Fazalhaq Farooqi and Fareed Ahmad.
Left-handed opener Hazratullah Zazai was notably excluded from the primary squad. Instead, he joins Sediqullah Atal and Mohammad Saleem as one of the three reserve players traveling to the USA and the Caribbean.
Afghanistan, placed in Group C, kicks off its campaign on June 3, starting with a match against Uganda at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Subsequently, it will meet New Zealand at the same venue on June 7. Then, it will play Papua New Guinea in Trinidad on June 13 and West Indies in Gros Islet, St Lucia, on June 17.
The eight teams will be divided into two groups of four, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the Super Eight phase. The top two teams from each Super Eight group will then progress to the semifinals, with the final on June 29th.
