England’s defending champions have revealed their squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
The squad, led by captain Jos Buttler, features a mix of experienced players and young talents. Key players include batters like Phil Salt and Jonny Bairstow and lower-order hitters such as Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, and Sam Curran. Adil Rashid will lead the bowling attack, with support from Tom Hartley, Jofra Archer, Chris Jordan, Reece Topley, and Mark Wood. Lancashire’s left-arm spinning all-rounder Tom Hartley is the only uncapped player in the squad, while Surrey batsman Will Jacks, also selected, has not featured in an ICC World Cup.
However, there was no place for all-rounder Chris Woakes, who was part of England’s T20 and ODI World Cup-winning teams, while batsman Dawid Malan was also omitted.
Archer, who is 29, has not played much cricket for England since 2021. This is mainly due to his ongoing issues with his right elbow, for which he has already undergone two operations. He also suffered a back injury, which prevented him from playing for most of 2022. However, England hopes he stays fit and healthy enough to participate in the upcoming four-match Twenty20 series against Pakistan. They also hope he can play in the World Cup, which is taking place in the Caribbean and the United States.
